Bu yılın yavaş okunacak kitabı. Tercümesi hakkındaki eleştirilere rağmen Türkçesinden okumağa karar verdim. Umarım pişman olmam. Baktım olmuyor, Penguin baskısından devam ederim.

Biraz geriden geliyorum. Cehennem bitmek üzere.

13 Ocak - Geçen yıl gibi, bu yıl da bir kitabı derinlemesine okumak için seçtim. Substack'te Vaşik Armenikus'un yönettiği bir yıllık birlikte okuma programına dahil oldum. Haftada iki kanto ile yıl sonuna -umarım- ulaşacağım.

Yavaş okumak, açıp savaştaki cephe hatlarını, muharebe taktiklerini, taaruzları incelemek, sonra efendim Tolstoy’un karısı Sofia’nın roman taslağını yedi kere baştan sona daktilo ettiğini öğrenmek demekmiş. Daha birinci kitaptayız…
Bakalım yıl sonuna kadar deftere neler eklenecek?

A certain someone read this book in their Eng. class. They suggested I read it because “…you’ll like it” So far, they are not mistaken.

Bu kitabı “yavaş okuma” topluluğu (https://open.substack.com/pub/footnot...?) ile yeniden okumağa başladım.
361 bölümü her gün bir bölüm okuyarak 1 yılda tamamlayacağız. Ben elbette Türkçe tercümeyi tercih ettim.
Benim için zorluk, yavaş okumak. Şimdilik kendimi tutabildim.

It's 937 pages; with notes, etc. more than a thousand pages. It's a collosal work, which is a bit intimidating.

Well, omissions are profound. I understand he has to keep a framework and a focus point, but it’s odd to read the change from pictographs to cuneiform in just two sentences. How’s it not important in terms of reading? Hoping that he will come back to this in the following chapters.

It seems Manguel frames the history of reading to Europe. I did see some references to MEast. I was surprised that he mentions the Toleranzpatent of Joseph II, but completely leaves the reforms of Peter the Great out.
Curious to see where the geographical borders of this book will extend to.

Much better than previous 2 volumes. The remaining (~700!) pages are looming on me, but it’s been a very pleasant read so far. Looks like he’s back to his writing self in Vol 1 and 2.

After reading the previous 5 volumes in sequence, I decided to take a break and read something else for a while. Well, that period lasted 5 months! Anyway, I started reading it a couple of days ago. It is definitely a dumb move to add such an thick-as-a-brick-book to the reading challenge. Oh, well.
I am enjoying it immensely so far.

Oh, what a delightful book! I am having so much fun reading this book that I haven’t had in a long, long time.
