This is not a book that will bring out the best in me. Perhaps 2 decades ago would have been a more "perfect time." I just cannot feel the same level of drama or sympathy for main characters impatient for marriage who are this young. Oh, no. You're 27 and have an unfulfilled vocation to marriage? Gee, you've been waiting forever. Whatever will you do? Oh, your problem will be solved by the end of the book? Whew!

The ratio of plot/action to passionate swooning/angst is leaning in the wrong way. Is this what it's like to live inside a 24 year old's head? Meh.

Enjoying this so far. It's like a very dark Harry Potter.

Over halfway finished... what is going on? Is there a plot?

Over a quarter finished and I still have no idea what I'm reading. Who are these people, and what is going on?

Over 3/4 finished and still waiting for there to be a plot. So much meandering, I'm actually quite bored.

15% plot 85% talking about how dreamy the guy is. Meh.

Listening at 2.5x speed just to get this over with already.

Having a hard time surrounding myself with such terrible human beings.

Back after a significant pause. Having trouble finding the motivation to continue. I find Mary's love interest somewhat... disturbing. And people's propensity to give long, perfectly worded speeches that sound more like letters I find less believable than a time-traveling piece of furniture.

Dragging along so slowly. A third of the way through and we haven't even gotten to Egypt yet. I may not finish it.
