Rereading and have noticed 2 glitches... firstly, the Old Wizards mention wyrsa and makaar in the first book, but have no clue what they are when they encounter them in this one, secondly - in Book 1 Kordas states that he is NOT Landwise (for which hes grateful due to the state of the Empire) but in book 2 Delia says that he IS Landwise. Silly but annoying mistakes that should have been picked up on in editing

Not only is the damn magic dagger of Outremer back for possibly the fourth excursion, but it seems that Paul has also forgotten his equi e anatomy as he describes Chansons feet hanging well below his horses withers... well so I should jolly well hope - unless he's riding upside down🤣🤣🤣
Enjoying the story though... except for that dagger!!!!

How many more times is this damn dagger going to reappear as a plot point??? Honestly, this must be the fourth book - and Hugh never seems to recall his previous interactions with it!
Still, a great story, that magic dagger is just starting to really annoy me now!

Needs some serious proofreading, Caro and Millicent have been confused three times so far - and TWICE on the same page😵😵 enjoying the story though

Dear author. A lot of people have commented on the Americanisms in this series, I've been able to ignore most of them because the stories are just so enjoyable, but I cannot ignore a most EGREGIOUS error... chipmunks are just NOT a British thing!!!!!! We do not have them, we have squirrels! Nowadays there are approximately 1000 chipmunks in the UK, after some being released in the 70s, in the 1920s - NO NO NO!!!!

First up.... WTF is up with the cover???? Sam has RED hair (hellooo...Big Red anyone???) And Emma has short bobbed BLONDE hair!!!! And why has Kurt got a muffin top and Billy spiky black hair???? WTAF????

And the sliced tomatoes😭

How much fecking coffee does this woman drink??? And why do we have to have a description of every time she brews it??? Also, the wholemeal toast? She's eaten it like 7 times already - sometimes its straight out the toaster, sometimes she lets it get cold, but by gawd, she is gonna eat that frixkin wholemeal bloody toast (from the Co-Op of course, because you can't just get ANY old wholemeal bread!!!!)

Overall, it shows its age - I read this for my big sis's book review about 20years ago. This book wouldn't be *allowed* nowadays, but think it IS accurate as to feelings of many preteen girls. No, we weren't all nicey, yes we DID take against other girls for silly reasons, cliques DID form over silly ideas, so, while my *modern* sensibility frowns on it, I recognise the reality of preteen thought patterns. Enjoyable

Insane. There is an Arabian horse that is apparently almost 20hh. The biggest horse ever recorded was 21.5hh... Arabians are small and dainty. FACT CHECK Ms Ellis!

I enjoyed this more on the first read; however this book in NO WAY measures up to the brilliance that was Cashelmara...and thus it falls short of the magnificence of Penmarric. For me probably, Cashelmara is the epitome of greatness for Ms Howatch. This book fell short in its caricatures - in this we were left without a hero.
A fellow historian will see how this game plays out - UNSATISFACTORY
