Sometimes because things have a magical start there’s a pressure to keep it pushing, but when this happens, I hope you know there’s also another option TO GET OFF THE DAMN TRAIN. You don’t have to be boyfriend and boyfriend. You can just be a thing that had an amazing start that ended. Ffs.

I’m anxious on her behalf because girl why are you accidentally dating a straight woman, impersonating a dead woman, and yes I know she’s depressed but talking about how Barney has BO… girl what if it’s you??? You haven’t showered in god knows how long????

Not to be a raving lunatic but the exposure of the bots made me think of that one person I was talking to on hinge that kept asking me all these essay like questions and it got so bad I deleted the whole app.

Fired. As she should be. First misusing company equipment and then having the effrontery to come to them with such ridiculousness.

Classic case of lampshading happening in this book. It’s like if the author points out that the character is aware she’s acting like she’s in a detective story, and it’s so irresponsible and tactless, then we’d all let it go because after all the character and the author are self aware but I’m really having a hard time letting it go.

….so, while there may be a genetic predisposition to certain behaviors like aggression, the environment and socialization absolutely shape how these traits are expressed. In this sense, aggressive tendencies in boys can, and often should, be socialized out of them, just as they are in girls.

Chapter 8: A 1 her old may not be able to internalise social norms, however, the way adults react to aggression can have a profound impact on how that behavior is shaped over time. This difference in treatment plays a significant role in how gender roles are reinforced in children.

Reeves makes a strong point in this chapter that I 100% agree with. The issue with black men isn’t inflexibility like I mentioned previously. Black men have always been at a disadvantage. Now with more resources being given to help women in general & thus by association Black women, Black women have now narrowed their gaps in education and employment, while black men still suffer from the same systemic issues.

Chapter 3 thoughts: “Men are unable to fufill the traditional breadwinner role nor step into new one”
He proposes that we redefine the role of the father. Sure let’s do that. Are the fathers willing to be redefined?

Expectations of women homemaking may have eroded but the husband’s breadwinner norm persists. True. In this I see how there’s a collective issue.

Yes men lower down the ladder are struggling but when systems have always been designed to favour you, the idea of adapting can feel unnecessary and maybe even demeaning.

Chapter 2 thoughts: I like that he mentions that we should encourage men into HEAL jobs because again it comes back to adaptability. Women’s willingness to take on any job (albeit leading to the pay gap) isn’t always a choice. It’s a necessity to keep up with their male peers. This flexibility, a core trait that men lack is what is giving them the upper hand.

Chapter 1 thoughts: What the author fails to expand upon here is the ‘aspiration gap’ he mentioned. Men are accustomed to systemic privileges and do not feel the urgency women do to adapt and excel and it is their complacency that results in falling behind. It’s not just about equipping men. They need to overcome the mindset of loss and adapt to a world that privilege alone no longer guarantees success.

I just want to say whatever Leigh did in this book it should not happen again. I mean I’m not even halfway yet but this ‘romance’ budding between these two is quite literally forced. Plus oh my godddd this reads like a run-of-the-mill YA. Surely it’s not the author or Ninth house and SOC writing this!

The one thing that’s kept me pushing through this book was the promise of sth happening between Remy and Zidan or Remy and Xiaodan, and then next thing, I’m getting Remy with Zidan and Xioadan but the first time they happen to have sex it’s a bit disturbing seeing as he’s ’falling in and out of consciousness’? For a book I picked from the library I’m shocked this was allowed there.
