I'm most of the way through the "Christianity misunderstood" chapters, and I have to say that I need more context from Tolstoy's time and place to know if I agree with his seemingly too-absolutist tendencies in his criticisms. For example, his understanding of idolatry seems overly simple and stubborn; icons, statues, relics, etc are aids to spiritual life, not idols. But many good points here too.

Giving up halfway through. Very wordy, badly written, art that doesn't find much harmony with the text. Life's too short to waste time with this silliness.

I'm in part one at this time. Listening to the audio version, read by the author herself, and I don't know what page this would be. I just wanted to comment that no, it's not a strawman to say that many take for granted religion is the cause of most wars. I hear it all the time. It may not be universal, but it's common. I'm faced with that all the time, and am grateful to not be the only person to disagree.

Cocky taunting self-righteous speechifying antiheroes give me cramps. Antihero is a petty, indignant jerk. but the mystery of what's going to happen still intrigues me. So we'll see what happens.
