A book to make me feel better about my ability to read. Ann Patchett is so comforting.

Elise is starting The Year of Magical Thinking
Started reading earlier this year. I bought it and then my aunt died which pushed me to pick up this book about someone else’s grief. I had to stop because it was only making me hyper aware of my own experience and not in a conducive way. I may revisit this when the feeling is a bit further away.

This is turning into a psychological thriller and I don’t like that :(

Immediate thought for chapter one is that I jumped and cringed when she mentioned that she has both died and has an elven upbringing. The bio did not disclose this but we will see! Maybe I misheard 😭

About a quarter way through. The protagonist is so young and lovely and relatable (minus the casual mentions of cocaine use???)

And the evil sexy older man has now suggested spending the night. It’s like reading a train wreck you know will result in endless deaths (except the evil sexy older man) but cannot turn away from

The book is excellent. I’m actively looking forward to quiet bed time with it. But there’s so much mention of poop and vomit 😞 maybe I’m too easily grossed out by the imagery

I forgot how much her YA novels taught me about class consciousness. It isn’t as romantic as I remember

This is the slowest and driest book I read this year and ever from this author.

Elise is starting The Love Hypothesis
It’s dawning on me that my favorite trope is dating introverted men who other people dislike.

I didn’t think I’d love this so much that listening would be my favorite part of the day. However, I know how this is going to end (the author never concealed it) despite all the bursts of hope sprinkled throughout and I’m kinda sad. Can we go back to chapter three happiness please??

Not what I would’ve expected for my first 2021 read. Likely not gonna be good to my anxiety either, but there aren’t that many other books available and Amy Harmon said so.

On the first night of 2021: I think I’ve officially lost hope that Rainbow Rowell will publish another YA or even adult novel in this part of my twenties.

I thought I knew what I was getting. I read the a Wikipedia summary before I caved into the full thing but I couldn’t have really been prepared for the weird way my heart is hurting right now. Dramatic but so is the writing and how big the idea of love seems. Like Call me By Your Name, it makes love and romance seem like the “be all end all”. I really love that. I feel seen.

I’ve realized that it’s like The Pearl but with culture. Reading this makes me really mournful but also thinking it’s a good idea to let go of the romance for a while and back into the more complex stuff.

Elise is finished with Richer Than Sin (Sin, #1)
This shit is moving so slowly, nothing in comparison to the Forge trilogy. I understand the significance of pacing, but then back and forth and everything else just lacks Meghan March’s usual intensity. All the necessary elements are there, but I’m struggling to find the patience to finish this instead of just picking up something else.

Considering the meekness I feel, I relate so much to Lark. I’m envious of her ability to speak without really speaking, and I wish communication could be that easy. Reading this is so therapeutic right now.

My mind was everywhere when I started. I was so distracted emotionally with turmoils of my father that I couldn’t still enough to appreciate what I was reading. But this book is beautifully written. It’s not pretentious, but it’s smooth in its strength and I feel like a ball of mush. The kind of book that has you touching your ears because it feels so real. I’m so happy I decided to read it.
