Why is this narrated in British English? The main character is American, and her Americanism (i.e. her "otherness" in England) is an important aspect of her character

Most of this book is Claire accidentally (and conveniently) stumbling upon a private conversation that is essential to the plot and then eavesdropping so the reader can have the information. The plot conveniences are very annoying
