A pretty brutal chapter in American history, the Chamberlain scalping expedition favored Manifest Destiny. William Walker was roping in Latin American countries, and "Glanton" was roping in Mexico, with the sanction of the Mexican government- for a while. Who knew there was an anti-western genre, or western goth, but this book is the definitive example.

My this guy is a thinker, and it's a good read provided you have a little time for introspection. Excellent perspective on how "progress" has been thrust upon us, damn the consequences, to our ultimate frustration.

Michael Huckaby is finished with Mary Colter: Builder Upon the Red Earth
It's a shame so many of her works have been razed, but the best examples are all over GCNP. I hope to get to Santa Fe this summer to appreciate La Fonda, and La Posada in Winslow, AZ. This was a wonderful book on an underappreciated archetect and designer. She had to fight to get her way, and at least her employer had her back.
