Having a hard time remembering this book was written regarding a time over 150 years ago—so much applies to what is happening in current events…”Profit, income, uncontrolled power in My Business for My Property and for Me—this was the aim and method of the new monarchical dictatorship that displaced democracy in the United States in 1876.” Is applicable to today.

Definitely some stories I like better than others, but I’m enjoying it. I get to spend the beginning of the new year in the universe I love to escape to.

The Red One by Rae Carson
An Incident Report by Mallory Ortberg
Change of Heart by Elizabeth Wein
The Trigger by Kieron Gillen

Are my favorites so far

E book page “Nor was he around when I finally understood that having a loving and nurturing father made a lifetime difference. Only after I saw women who were attracted to distant, condescending, even violent men did I begin to understand that having a distant, condescending, even violent father could make those qualities seem inevitable, even feel like home. Because of my father, only kindness felt like home”

On With or Without You--"I was at least two people: the person who is so responsible, protective and loyal and the vagrant and idler in me who just wants to run from responsibility. "...religion was at its best when it emphasized spiritual experiences rather than received dogma. 'The juice goes out of Christianity when it becomes too based on faith rather than on living like Jesus or seeing the world as Jesus saw it. I think different religions are different doors to the same house. Sometimes I think the house exists and sometimes I don't. It's the great mystery. '" -Steve Jobs

What with all the homework for my librarian classes I'm finding it difficult to find time to read. It's disconcerting because I've never had that problem before!

Sabrina is a brat and I want to smack her half the time. Plus I'm irritated that Buckley stole a story idea from Tad Williams in Otherland and Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next. Grrrr.
