Still struggling

I’m struggling so bad. This writing style is hard to read and I’m assuming that a good portion of the issue is that it’s translated from Spanish, but either way… I’m struggling.

Here’s the thing… Anna is literally so unlikeable that I don’t feel bad for her at all or care in the slightest about what she’s going through….

So far this is gearing up to be a 5 star read for me! Giggling and kicking my feet!

The number of times during this trial that I have dramatically rolled my eyes. I could never have been a woman in a puritan colony 😅 I would have been hung as a witch my first day. Just for being sassy.

I can’t even begin to quantify the disappointment I’m feeling right now.

I’m not sure if I want to finish this book. I have listened to 15 hours with 5 hours still left and I just…. Don’t know if I can do it.

There are so many things that I want to say so far, but I just can't organize my thoughts. Update soon.

Jude is so smart, cunning, brave, resilient, determined, and strong. BUT this book has been reminding me that she is a 17 year old girl who is also a dumb teenager. The fact that she still hasn't figured out the whole Cardan/exile thing is killing me.

Girl. Use your big brain.

How is it possible that I just read the BEST steamy scene I've ever read in a YA book and it wasn't even actually a sex scene?!?!?!?!?!

I love this book even more than the first one. Jude is a badass and I absolutely adore her.

Finally out of this reading slump. Better watch out, I'm on a roll.

Linus saying to Merle "Oh. What's the point of you then?" made me snort.

So far Jude is SO lovable.
I do not think Locke is a good guy. I have suspicions.

This book is making me SO MAD. I feel cheated. I was excited for a thriller. A mystery. Spooky, jumpy, twists and turns. This is just a mess.

This book has me feeling all of the good, lovely feelings already and I'm not even halfway through. I know Linus is going to grow so much in this book. That these children will change him in the best ways. I want everyone to read this book already. I'm so hopeful that I continue to feel this way through the end because this is a wonderful feeling. This book has the potential to make my top 5 favorites.

Casey is THE WORST main character (I'm listening to the audiobook, so if I spell names wrong, I'm sorry) but HOLY COW SHE SUCKS. I do not like her. At all. And maybe that's the point, but for right now she is just so annoying. She's dumb. She's irresponsible. She's selfish. She's way too impulsive.

I want to be done with this book so badly.

So I've been trying to figure out why I'm just not enjoying this.... it's because I'm not a fan of the writing style. The author tries way too hard to make her writing feel "lyrical". I noticed it a bit in the first book, but Scarlett was a way more likeable character. Tella is annoying. Very annoying. Also, the narrator is not my favorite. Sometimes the tone she uses for different scenes feels off. More to come.

Tella's maturity level is REALLY going to piss me off. I'm going to need some serious character development from her.... Fingers crossed. Also I really want Scarlett's POV....

DNF- Why is the writing SO BAD?

I'm not going to lie, I am having a hard time finishing this book. It's losing me.

I am so torn. I have listened to almost 4 hours of this book and I have not connected with a single character.... Do I keep listening? Do I give up?? Bumping this sucker up to 2x speed for now...
