By chapter 4 the ‘sword catcher’ who’s supposed to fly under the radar, gets his secret exposed?

Idk. I wasn’t feeling this and looked at reviews that seem aligned with my thoughts. Kept going a bit more and then just … no thank you.

I’m tired of hearing about how smart Hannah is. She’s such an unlikable character.

This is based on such recent history but it somehow also seems so long ago. Woodward and Costa are brilliant, factual, story tellers.

We aren’t off to a great start.

In the intro, it’s said they take practices from different cultures and I found myself hoping that they wouldn’t be closed practices (such as Indigenous). In the same intro it said to seek out Italian tradition for passion and Gaelic for hangover cures.

On page 9, ‘smudge stick’ is referenced. Smudging itself is a closed practice. Herb bundle for cleansing would be ok.

I like the parts written by the Dali Llama but the western author is kind of driving me nuts.

I know there is a lot more story to come and I expected this to be a challenging read.

I wasn’t expecting the challenge to come in the form of asking for sympathy for Germans after ww2. I get it but it feels weird

The intro I liked. I’m not sure how I feel about the chapter set ups and the point of view she used. We’ll see how this goes....

So the first 20 pages I was happy. The last 40 have been exploring the lives of other people. I’m sure it’ll become relevant, but... I’m irritated.

So far lots of being enamoured with wealth and lots of description of a house. As of now, unimpressed.

I haven’t read King in a little while. I forgot how great he can be.

I can’t predict where this is going, and I love it.
