I’m a little more than halfway through this book, and I have to say, it’s wildly weird—in the best possible way. I’ve always had a penchant for the unconventional, and this book delivers that in spades. Just wanted to jump on here and share that the official write-up for this book doesn’t do it justice at all. It’s no wonder my book club roundly rejected this recommendation.

True to the title, very dark. Also very smart. Very much enjoying this book so far.

I was finally becoming a Rooney Tune and super enjoying this book when my library loan expired. I have it on hold and can’t get wait to get back into it.

I like this better than Daisy Jones and the Six, but not much better. It's like reading Judith Krantz without any rewards. No true salaciousness - no surprises. Kind of boring actually. I listened to the first chapter about the fires in Malibu three times because that part was interesting.

What a delightful read. Nice to take a break from all my soul searching self-help books. I'm enjoying this. It's clever and cute and there is evidence of pure poetry in Eley's words.

This book was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize? I feel like The NY Times book review pod did me dirty with this recommendation. Another book about the apocalypse? Reminds me of After the Flood only not as dreary. I just can’t. I don’t have time for this when there are great books out there. Currently I’m into James McBride because I want to be wowed and amazed by the writing and where the story is going.

I'm not listening to one more second of this audiobook and marking it as read. It's not for me. Completely agreed with this review
"Sadly, After the Flood breaks down like this: 40% pointless whining about ethical dilemmas (Myra's gonna Myra, am I right?), 30% boat talk, 10% cringy sex scenes, and maybe, generously, 20% intriguing world building and poetic prose about the natural world."

Trying this book again since I thought it was so-so and my friend LOVES it. I might not finish since I’m having the same feelings about it. Some of the characterizations are hard to take. A little overboard with the well meaning characters who are going down a path of destruction because they think good things happen to good people. I’m moving on to Ladies Who Punch for the time being.

Did I just finish listening to this audiobook? Yes! Am I listening to it again? Why yes. Did I (after two glasses of wine) spontaneously book a plane ticket to visit my sister in Dallas and buy tickets to see John Waters while I'm there? I DID! He is a genius. So funny, so right and so true.

This books reminds me of reading Dicey's Song when I was little. It's made a little tearful, but hey, could just be hormones. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.
