Nimoy writes of the conversations he has in his mind with Spock, where he basically doubts that people’s admiration or affection is really aimed at him, and that it is instead aimed at the character he played. I think many of us do that in other ways. For years I thought that teachers only thought I was smart because of association with my sister. And I still doubt my own intelligence all the time.
