This book perfectly captures the feeling of first crushing on someone, paying attention to every slight touch and eye contact. It literally was giving me butterflies like I was experiencing it myself.

Finding it hard to connect with the side characters. A certain plot twist was just revealed but I had literally 0 reaction because I wasn't made to care about the character involved. The magic system also seems a bit confusing and under-explained.

I think I'm getting more used to the writing style. It still pulls me out of the story on occasion when I have to stop and figure out what she means by certain descriptions; but I do feel myself getting immersed in the story. Still uncomfortable with the mentions of race. Also I think I would be in love with her writing if she just dialed it back a bit and didn't try to give every single sentence 120%.

Shallan's head is so god damn fascinating.

These books always have such slow starts, I just wanna get to the point where I can't put it down.

Struggling with the writing style. Some of it is really pretty, but the rest of it feels like it tries too hard and fails to make sense. The scent of sunlight?? Also it feels odd to read the sentence "I didn't really know what made a person colored or not, but the way he said it made me glad I wasn't" from a white author.
