It's turning into a lesson on transgenderism which takes you totally out of the story and feels like nonfiction.

Seems like it is getting a little long...

I don't love the voice actor for Lily. Between the character voice and actor voice, I want to fast forward her chapters.

Loving it so far. Totally didn't think I would be this invested. Real Americana which I normally don't care about. Great coming of age story.

50% of the smut of the first in the series, but 90% more unlikable characters. Such hot garbage, I don't know why I listen and why I will continue to listen until the end of the series.

The conflation of desire and abuse and manipulation in this book is lazy at best and dangerous at worse. The book jacket must have gotten mixed up, but the description and reviews of this book are not even remotely close to that of the book I read.

Please, please be over. I do not care about the minutiae of Egyptology. I hate this book, but I want to know what happens in the NOT Egyptian history parts. I almost can't believe someone would write a book with so much tangential, historical context. Once again - I am skeptical of the collective of high ratings...

So far, all the characters seem terribly unlikable. I can't imagine caring about what happens to any of them.

I still have no idea how all these stories connect and my audiobook rental expires tonight. Ahhhh! I'll have to waitlist it again to figure out what the heck is going on!

My main issue is that the only way the author attributes dialogue is "Blah, blah," he says. ALWAYS after the spoken words and only using the word "says." It must have been used 200 times so far. Never whispers or explains or claims or retorts or lies or mocks or replies or literally anything else. Nope.
"I don't think I can finish this audiobook," I say.
"This repetitive, juvenile style is annoying me," I say.

Well, it seems I am 0/2 on new, popular, fiction. First The Midnight Library and now this. Currently, my main issue is that "say(s)" is the only word the author uses to attribute dialogue. It must have been used 200 times so far. Never whisper(s) or explain(s) or claim(s) or retort(s) or scream(s) or snicker(s) or report(s) or jokes(s) or lie(s) or any. other. word. Makes the text feel repetitive and juvenile.

Well, I am halfway through and there is no plot. Nothing of substance has happened,/is happening. It's not necessarily boring, but get to it already.

Aggravated with several recent starts of unsatisfying books, I switched to something I was convinced I could at least get through. I am in chapter 5 of the audio book and I already love it. So many fabulous phrase and sentences already.
