i feel like this is a really drawn out written version of that scene from benjamin button where daisy breaks her leg(s?)

also: just realized their shadow on the front cover creates a grim reaper

i’m not sure if it’s because i’m susceptible to feeling a sense of dread others feel (read: empathy) or if the concept of a countdown to something big is aligning with my own personal countdown to something big but i am so tense while i’m reading this

also: the gig-economy-ification of death and dying doesn’t seem too far away! 👍😻

there have been many concerning developments but this is probably the most concerning one so far!

Something I’d love to mention before I even get started reading is that the introduction to this volume is written by Morgan Spurlock, the creator and star of the “documentary” Super Size Me. Why? Did he reach out first? Did the creators reach out to him? Oh to be a fly on the wall in the early 2000s.

granted a lot of college campuses exploded in size during the cold war (75% of my osu classes were in engineering buildings with hastily placed women’s bathrooms) but here are the stats that are surprising me:

yeah i’m 32 pages in and this is a must read for northeast ohioans (the cover says it’s must read for all americans but i just don’t think i have the authority to say that tbh)

we all know generally what happened, but the context backderf is providing is incredible (and also quite the parallel to what you might see if you turn on today’s news)

don’t really give mid-read updates. a group of friends/journalists is going around the middle east gathering refugee stories and they’ve actually brought an american vet from the iraq war along with them. he’s mostly been touting his clean conscience and how he knows he only did good, but he’s getting nervous to meet iraqis during this visit because he knows they’ll challenge his perspective.
