Dan is starting Looking for the Perfect Beat: Remixing and Reshaping Hip-Hop, Rock and Rhythms
I always admired the production and remix work of Arthur Baker and even bought the albums he made with his kind of band / collective project, so this was an obvious book to buy when I spotted it. If you want to read about the era where 12" versions were a swanky new concept, and the early days of rap, or find out about the Roland 808 documentary (I remember enjoying that!) then I recommend it.

Dan is finished with Tonta (Love and Rockets)
This one suffers a bit for not being part of the key Locas / Maggie storyline. It's a nice little book that starts out rather quirky and inconsequential but a darker more crime-based plot is weaved into some of the short stories that are collected here.

Dan is starting My Lady Parts: A Life Fighting Stereotypes
Feminist adventures from Her off Two Doors Down and many other things. Tales from the days of alternative comedy, a visit to the world of light entertainment, then into acting... with some unsurprising revelations about dreadful men in comedy. The chapters about real life interrupting the acting jobs are a highlight.

Dan is finished with The Great British Bump-Off
Ordering the Solver Circus Windows collection reminded me that I never got around to buying this collection of the mini series starring Shauna from Bad Machinery. From the creators of Giant Days! Cakes and murders! How did I leave it so long?

Dan is starting Fern Press A Thousand Threads.
Went to the book launch event for this one in London with a kind friend who got me a ticket because we've been known to geek out about Neneh every now and then. What an amazing evening that was: A lovely chat between Neneh and Andi Oliver on stage, then a signing where I didn't go too gushy and shy. The actual book? Well... I never call a book "inspirational" as that's not my thing but this one really inspired me.

Dan is starting Doctor Who: The Return of the Daleks (Complete Doctor Who Back-up Tales)
The back-up strips in the old Doctor Who Weekly magazines were fondly remembered by lots of us middle-aged fans and now the strips from the first 30 or so issues have been collected in one lovely paperback for everyone to read, if they are into that sort of thing. It's a world of monsters as the anti-heroes of their own comic sagas. Highly recommended.
