Protagonist doesn’t mean ‘hero’ or ‘audience surrogate’.

The character you encounter in a book was written that way before you had any experience of them. Reading is about discovery and feeling out your differences with another point of view.

America’s love affair with Donald Trump is like seeing a battered woman return again and again to her abuser. It’s deeply upsetting. Where’d all the good people go?
