Too much welsh banter. Aiken obv taken by old parlance n colloquialisms but just makes it harder to read. Entire conversations in local jibber jabber. Odd word might be interesting.
Good writer, but this one possibly not for me.

now we're talking. gentle pastoral English tales of ghostly goings on. bought 4 more Livelys off the back of first few pages - oh, and the Carnegie n Booker awards help sugar the Worldofbooks £8 bill obviously. What a gorgeous name, 'Penelope Lively'

tough going, all this olde scots banter. There's a couple of asterisk-ed words on near evr'y damned page! Nearly DNF-ed but only 200 pages and jumping dull christian chunks to cut to the meat of it.

the illustrated favoured text is a treat, with gaiman's trademark grown up bits amid his fantastical word weaving.

Will Sargent is starting Tik-Tok
after a great start I have become lost in a quagmire of constant comedy used to describe tiktik's time with former employers. Not had a book start so well and then stall like this but will plug on for 20 more pages before jumping across to pullman's sally lockharts for a few weeks.

Will Sargent is on page 150 of 437 of Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #1)
Tempted to DNF this as it's the usual angry, miserable social misfits and accidentally brilliant hero with pal/s dirge. The problem is that I've started Conan, Vance and Fafhrd and this now stands little chance of surviving!!!

takes time to get into old language, but worth the effort. I am enjoying this tale of blustery Cornish coast smuggling.

Will Sargent is starting A Wrinkle in Time (Time Quintet, #1)
gosh, I stumbled across the new disney film for this with Oprah Winfrey in it and it looks bloody awful. What a shame as this is a classi book.
Doesn't read as elegantly as say Charlotte's web just yet, with poss too much dialogue and too little cute descriptive work, but it's good stuff.

small chunk remains and decided life is too short for these LOR clones when books like assassin's apprentice and howard's conan and lieber's grey mouser are on the shelf looking at me. Too much time here spent listing names and job titles and map regions than actually telling the story or getting deep into characters. I'll finish this, but no more of this stuff for me.

happy I gave this a second chance. I'm half way through and enjoying the merry, hobbity journey. It's much better than Shannara (what isn't!) with echoes of even Locke Lamora and Lieber as the fellowship meet dirty traders across rain sodden town squares and run from the goblins. Don't forget to follow the story on the map, kids!

whenever I read 50s sci-fi I get restless and want to return to the comfort of herbert, campbell and king. Maybe 80s horror is my real passion?

Fun trips to planets, and fun to see how new tech was imagined back then, but 50s era habit of stuffing speech with slang is making for stuttery read.

not sure about this as it's very cocky and very old fashioned and very american (despite him being english). Liking the Martians, but there are regular made up slang words that aren't sitting well. Maybe I piled into too much Russell too soon. Will go easy on this then judge properly with Wasp and Next of Kin.

I'm struggling, guys, and just 40 pages in. I'm pretending this is a comic book story from Misty and not a real book to help me through sizzling descriptive work such as when our king wizard first comes to town and frowns at British colonial architecture and "the big, soft commissioner". I'm gonna stick with it purely as an experiment, and because it reminds me of the pain I suffered under Terry Brooks!
