Already, I’m astounded by this book. It’s so simple, yet lays it out so easily for all to understand.

Even though I know this is a serious book, there are times when I find myself laughing out loud. Like, I’m crying because I know it’s not funny, but it’s so dam well written it’s funny. Like when they said “we just each have one tortilla left but we ate all the queso cause it was so good” like I felt that in my soul. I also feel like that vine “I’m back in the fucking building” cause 3x the charm

I died laughing when he said “tacos are the best food in Mexico” like yes!! They are!

And then I get immediate whiplash when he talks about the colorism and how they’re getting profiled, simply by their skin color, that happens in Mexico! It breaks my heart that colorism still exists today, even outside the USA

Just started reading this book, cause I’ve heard nothing but positive things about it. And already I’m impressed, just on page 4! One little detail that I love is the use of Spanish inverted question mark ¿? that he uses, even for questions in thinking. It’s like, even if the questions are in English, he still has that part of hispanidad and latido and embedded in him.

Just started reading it today, and already finished two chapters. The language of the book is fairly simple, very enjoyable and I’m surprised that’s there’s a few words I didn’t know upon my first encounter. I can’t wait to read and digest more of this book.
