I want so badly to like this book. It's a great concept and Chabon is a good writer, but dear heaven the extraneous details and the backstories and the sidestories. I suspect the content could be reduced by 50% (no exaggeration) and the result would be a much more engaging novel.

If this book doesn't get better soon I'm returning it to the library. I'm over fifty pages in, have bounced around to at least four different decades in time, and absolutely nothing of note has happened.
