I first read Interview with a Vampire and fortunately I didn't let it turn me off from this brilliant novel. In that first tale, Lestat is erratic, and from Louis' perspective we are not allowed to like him or understand his motives. In his own story it becomes clear how his troubled humanity makes him a perfect person to experience every possible facet of becoming a vampire. Much more compelling than Louis' tale.
