Is this going to be my first Levy dnf…… I really want to like this!

This is soooo dull and every other sentence is a repeat of the previous sentence, only slightly more pretentious.

I decided to listen to this on BorrowBox for something lighthearted but one of the characters has been called a “bitch” about 17 times so far and also someone has just said she “has the look of a hermaphrodite” so this is really enlightening!

I slightly lost momentum towards the end, but I think that is only because the emotional punches were dealt so unflinchingly in the first few letters. As well as, undoubtedly, being about the experiences of being a Black woman in America this is a tender book about God. Most poignantly, it is about decentering the “white way” of God’s image; as an agnostic reader this was very impactful. So glad I read!

I'm starting to suspect that I just don't get on with Zadie Smith's writing style...

Oh Deborah Levy you are a genius.

Hmm I didn't care much for "the Watsons" - if I'm honest I couldn't remember which man was which. The moral of the story is, there is such a thing as too many men.

Lady Susan gets a 4/5⭐ and I think it could've been one of my favourite Austen's if it had been finished !
