I’m glad to reread this book with my best friend! It’s been five years since I first read this and Delany still astounds me with his gorgeous prose and bizarre worldbuilding and culture of Triton. And yet Bron is still such a jerk like a man from the 21st century haha, turns out a so called utopia isn’t so perfect after all

Sherpas are supremely underrated, they are getting these westerners up the mountain lol

So fascinating, Dick Bass was apparently more competent than I thought lol. Still think it’s a bad idea to have so many guided expeditions but money talks

Still can’t believe that Anatoli climbed like three more terrifying mountains and faced more near death experiences after what happened on Everest

I’m back in it now! I don’t want this book to end it’s so fascinating. Anatoli is so wise and his love for the mountains touches my heart

That is so sad, I didn’t know he was involved in another Everest like disaster

This is incredible, what a man! Not only an insanely gifted alpinist but also a sensitive writer

Anatoli was a hero, rip to him!

Lou was smart to turn back good for him, it’s nice to be outside of Jon Krakauer’s perspective lol

Fascinating and different look at the 1996 Everest disaster so far! I like how it gives background on Anatoli and Scott as well as discussing the new monetized expeditions

Such a disturbing book, still fascinating to read about the treacherous climbing, the bitter cold, the foolishness of anyone even climbing Everest lol

Now that’s what I call a good book, you can trust a journalist to write excellent nonfiction-fiction haha. Love all the background the author gives while building the feeling of impending doom on his Everest trip

Intrigued by all the novellas coming out recently, wonder if it’s cheaper to print and market them haha

After reading an awful novella, time to read something actually great! I last read this in the Maryland heat while on an archaeological dig, now I am rereading before a giant Maryland snowstorm lol
