I cannot do it anymore. I am so lost. There's no plot and I don't understand any of the references!!

I’m only half way through the book but am so excited to write a review.. call me hasty...

What an absolutely charming book. I cannot put it down. The prose is absolutely delightful. I regularly have to stop and reflect on how well written and clever it is. I am regularly engrossed in the descriptions which pore with wonderful, unique and sensory experiences. To be continued on completion...

Loved this book initially. H/e I can see the writer is an arrogant xenophobe. With examples like this
“A few Hispanic men leaned against a wall, watching us hopefully. I wasn’t worried about drawing attention. They were day labourers. Almost definitely documented. Groups like this congregated at Home Depots all over California. Work was their only concern.. and not attracting attention of law enforcement”

This book is so great!!! I’m so excited to read it all. As a multi- potentialite I’m already finding this book so relatable and empowering

This has been on my list for a while. As a self-defining feminist I haven’t really picked up many famous historic feminist works so I didn’t have any expectations.
This essay was written in the 30s and was interestingly seen as quite provocative which is fascinating in itself. The 1st chapter was a drag, then there was a chapter that got me riled up about misogyny... TBctd

Couldn’t finish it but might try and reread some day. I found it deeply disturbing how he was able to predict the surveillance state...

Had to return this to the library and pay a £10 fine. I intend to buy myself a copy and start again though

I put this book down because I found it too depressing.... I intend to get back to it at some point but not quite sure when.

I love this writer and like her other book Americanah I couldn't put it down for the first half of the book but then it gets a bit boring.. Maybe because it gets too political I'm not too sure. But her writing style is amazing as well as her character development... You know that the characters are inspired by real people because they just feel so real. It's a real shame that it got boring though :(
