people really aren't kidding when they say reading Sanderson ruins other fantasy huh? thought i loved a couple books and now having read a truly fascinating magic system and artful worldbuilding, they just feel very lackluster :(

The part in Alanna where the healer woman told her she couldn't deny her womanhood because the gods made her that way... felt pretty transphobic. Or at least was written in ignorance. Considering when it was published, I can't be too harsh about it, but that really threw me for a loop considering it's about a girl breaking gender norms. Also that same healer not believing Alanna about motherhood.
