Halfway through and I have no clue what in the hell I’m reading yet, so I’m hoping things start coming together soon.

I will give it 4 stars because it was interesting and written well but personally I really do not enjoy books that make me hate almost every single character 🫠

Halfway through and I have lost count of how many times Harry has said “by Saint George!” and the infamous so-and-so “has the sow by the right ear.” Weir writes as though she has never met an actual human being. Henry is a cardboard king, there is so little dimension to him the book reads almost like a YA Tudor intro. Honestly I get this sense from all her books but am a Tudor addict and take what I can get.

I read this trilogy through and had to stop near the end of the last book. The story is told well, you thoroughly experience the horror, the senseless violence, and the weaponized ignorance. At times it feels like an appropriate cautionary tale for the current political climate. With how visual the book was and knowing the fate of the royal children, thinking of my own son I couldn’t finish it.

This is such an over idealized version of all of these amazingly interesting historical figures, no one has any depth and all of the messy interactions and dramas were cut right out to keep things tidy. I’m at ch. 18 and won’t finish it

I think it would be the perfect book to introduce this misunderstood man to someone new to the subject. He’s treated as a touch too saintly by the author, he was far more complex than that. But there were certain disastrous misunderstandings framed perfectly here. I also believe deep down that Buckingham was responsible for the deaths of the princes (or prince bc Woodville was brilliant and terrified) so 3.5⭐️
