I’ve barely started, and I’m reading it in Spanish so it’ll probably take me months to finish, but I’m loving it… some of the best world building I’ve read in a while.

I already like this so much more than “El viento conoce mi nombre” which is the only other writing I’ve read of hers.

I was really excited for this book but it is not doing it for me. The dialogue feels forced and the characters mostly feel like one-dimensional vehicles for political issues that Allende was eager to write about... political issues that *are* both necessary and interesting to write about, but I don't think are being done justice by this story...
