I've not been my best self this week...

When GR prompts me to review a book, it's a terrible temptation to write exactly what I think. At best, I ramble; at worst, I pick a book apart.
But then I see the author's face in a bio pic. And I remember it's not words on a page I'm criticizing, it's a person.
Cardinal rule of critique: sandwich critique between praises. And critique is not criticism.

A commenter said that these characters unravel more yarn than they crochet; and right now I agree. I'm a mediocre crocheter, and even I don't have to redo this much!

So far so good; not 100% my cup of tea, but well-written. Love this quote from an actress character: "I've been in my share of detective dramas, but 'the body' always got up when the shot was done."

This book has already brought tears to my eyes, especially reading about the relationship between brothers Walt and Roy. How I wish I could have met Walt Disney!

This is a yearly devotional, so I'm on August right now. Each day has a book quote or short devotion from Grace Livingston Hill, along with a coordinating Bible verse.
I love that I can get a glimpse into Grace's "real" voice in these devotions--she feels even more like a friend and confidante. Such a wonderful, spunky lady.

Ok so far. Well-written. The main character is interesting, though so far the supporting characters show signs of bickering a lot...

And yes, even on only page 22, the boyfriend is kind of a jerk. ;)

07-24-15: Roy Chapman Andrews is supposedly one of the real-life inspirations for Indiana Jones. I've barely started this book, but already I can see the similarities! Andrews writes in a marvelous conversational style, painting word-pictures of the places he's seen--sights, sounds, smells, sensations. By page 51, he's just barely started his adventures...I'm eager to see what's next!

I stumbled across this book at my local fabric store. It's just the creativity boost I needed! Aside from gorgeous, colorful art, it has such inspiring ideas--for example, use old to-do lists as the base of a painting, drawing, or collage. Love it!! I'm picking it up as I need the inspiration, so it may take me a while to meander my way through this book's lovely pages.

This Reading Book is so silly, yet epic. I'm enjoying it very much. :)
