I love the character of Rin, and I get that battle is what makes her character grow, but I don't care about battles. Epic fantasy isn't for me.

I'm already so in love with Tristan I want him to come out of this book and have dinner with my family. This kid is awesome! My kid is going to love this book!

This book isn't for me. It's one action scene fleeing after another and I don't care enough about the characters to enjoy the ride. I know they're going to survive because the story is only just beginning.

I'm also not good with Missing Heir stories. They're heavy handed by nature & not my thing. This book is well written but not for me.

I see the Rick Riordan plot pattern laid out in this book, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I have some other books. However, I'm having the same issue with the Trials of Apollo series.

I don't think it's the book that I dislike. It's the formula for the plot that I'm not finding comfort in right now.

I'm sure my son will finish the audiobook. Not sure I will.

I bought this book to read as a comp to my work in progress probably a year ago. I gave it to my son to read first, and he absolutely loved it. He told me I had to read it.

I tried to read it, but I just wasn't in a good headspace, and that attempt ruined any future attempts for me.

So now, I'm trying in audiobook. We'll see how it goes!

This is such a pure allegory for America and white supremacy it's incredible. Beautiful weaving of reality into a fantasy that makes it feel too close to home and yet happening somewhere else as well.

I understand why my friends loved this book so very much

I love that Seraphina is woven into this and her half-sister is super judgy.

Tess is a GREAT character and I think I'm most excited by the fact that this is listed as BOOK 1!

If ever there was an opening that made me disappointed I can't read more this second, it is this book's opening. Excited to keep going.

My son specifically asked for this book. The 5th graders at his school read it, and he wanted to as a 3rd grader. So I get to read it first.

Plus, this has a similar tone to my current work in progress. Feeling like I'll get a lot out of this read.

I've been stuck in getting back to this book. I think I need to get this draft out of my head, and then I'll plunge back into this for editing and world-building then.

This book is so crazy good. I've gotten lots of warnings that it's got a heartbreaking ending. I'm trying to prepare myself for that.

I was enjoying this book while only being mildly annoyed by Jason Dessen, but now I'm not sure I can finish the last 100 pages. There's nothing real going on. There's no tension because the main character can't be in real danger. I feel like I'm stuck in this holding pattern of words until the real exciting bit at the end shows up, and if I just hang in there, it'll be worth it. I certainly hope so.

I'm not sure if I totally believe the first-person narrative. This is supposed to be a girl that could pass for sixteen, but her vocabulary and references are for a woman in her forties. I know she's supposed to be mature, but this isn't feeling consistent.

There are not words to describe how much the audiobook narrated by Claudia Black is. A great story surpasses excellence with her nuanced reading. I LOVE THIS STORY!

This is exactly what I expect Steampunk to be. A romance based on mutual respect and appreciation of intelligence with a physical attraction added in. BTW: I hate Tolly. I understand his perspective, but he's a jerk.
