Wow so this is the second National Book Award winner I have read in the last 30 days and I'm just going to say up front that if you want to be a National Book Award winner your book has to be depressing. Like keep heading towards the bottom depressing. Like you think the protagonist has hit rock bottom, nope that was just a little ledge you were on and now they are spiraling downward again.
