It’s really amazing how a fictional story can teach us not to blame others for things.

Taking forever, but still intriguing.

Too long! Finally halfway.

Meh, it was cute until the very end. Wow, I couldn't have imagined the conclusion ending so vainly. The only thing I know about this book when I started reading it was that it is A Christmas Carol reimagined and a romance. The main character, Harriett meets the Ghost of Christmas past and this is their story but despite all the attempts to make this a cute mystique, it fails to converge and lacks a cohesive finale.

Chapter 25 is very interesting as it discusses air rights and underground spaces with respect to urban zoning but I am particularly intrigued by the fact that 1/3 of the Los Angeles library’s restoration and expansion was covered by a donation from a tobacco company. The tobacco company got a large tax deduction in return for the donation.

I love that it’s noted here that the librarian Althea Warren established an advice line that parents could call to inquire if a particular movie was appropriate for children, but why not for books as well?

Chapter 13 is about the head librarians but I’m not sure who was librarian during the fire so I’m not supportive if this chapter. It’s tedious information.

It’s interesting. Very detailed and technical so far. Having over twenty years experience in Architecture and Design I’m saddened and disappointed there were so many fire code violations and the building was not updated to current codes at the time.

50% through and 3 days left to read. Not very interesting.

This novel is captivating!

Autumn 2025 Book #4? at a College/University

I didn’t know the Medici jewels were located at the Morgan Library and possibly DaVinci’s notebook as well.

Jim Crow laws were state and local statutes enacted in the American South from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.

“And we were quite a bit fairer than the newly arrived immigrants I’d seen in lower Manhattan, those of Italian and Mediterranean descent who were presumed to be white, although a low sort of white”.

Continuing my Fall Book mood with a library themed book. Didn’t know some of this novel was set in Princeton, NJ.

First Day of Fall warrants a book about a bookshop!

It’s ok. Think the Golden Girls meet a workaholic young career woman with regrets.

At Chapter 14 and it got very exciting!

Moving slow and not entertaining at all.
