Great!

Finished the 1st story Irving’s Rip Van Winkle. A hen pecked husband falls asleep and wakes up 20 years later. No longer a subject of King George but a free citizen of the U.S. His shrew wife dead, he gets to idle about revered as a chronicler of the old times before the war. It’s a lively written story with a terrific vocabulary! Throughly enjoyed it.

Skipped intro. Read 1st chapter on Monsters. Intriguing. Staring 2nd chapter deeper into monsters.

Great night time read. Ebook borrow from TPL 7 day loan. Seeing how far I get. Ending chp. 9

Wish I’d already read this. But alas my mind must now be aghast by its sad relevance now more than ever.

Using this for its great writing exercises. Extremely helpful! Started chronologically, then began hopping around. One of the best books on writing I’ve come across. Highly recommend.

Finished the first dialogue: Euthyphro. That was engaging. Stuck on getting into the next one: Apology.

Stuck on Book 22. Maybe I just don’t want it end so shelving it. Either that, or it’s turned into a slog. But I really want to finish it so I can move on to another translation. I have Wilson’s all lined up.

The intro was great!! JCO deep dive on the importance and history of the short story in America. She defines the short story and then unpacks each selection for the anthology. How it seeks to present overlooked pieces and weave its own narrative about America reading through the selections ordered chronologically.

I got 2/3 through it and abandoned it. Good inside
baseball read of Preminger working his way into pioneering Hollywood mogul Zanick’s studio. Well written and an engaging read. Just felt I’d got enough of a gist by the time I stopped. Recommended!
