Merla Miller is starting The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector's Story
A memoir of a young girl's escape from North Korea. I have never understood how people can just accept living under such conditions until I read this book. It makes so much more sense now. And I can see this happening here on our soil if we aren't careful. Excellent, informative book. Highly recommend

Merla Miller is starting The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane
This novel is about Li-yan; her life as an Akha in the rural mountains of China, then her hardships and successes after she leaves her village. Alternate chapters introduce us to Haley, a Chinese orphan adopted by a Californian couple. Tea and its cultivation is the theme that ties and binds these two womens' stories. Exceptional. Highly recommend. And brew some tea while reading!

Merla Miller is starting The Survival of Thomas Ford
This is a psycho thriller written by an author who resides in Scotland. A young man runs a couple off the road resulting in the wife's death; his descent into insanity where his father has lived for years. Not bad once you get the hang of the Scottish version of certain words and realize they aren't misspelled.
