i like the descriptions, they're very vivid

i find it curious that people think this book is highly exaggerated and the literary version of "the youth are stupid and doomed" when, during the time i was reading this today on the train, i had to deal with several people blasting full-sound tiktoks for the whole carriage, one of them listening ad nauseum to the same screeching squeals for minutes on end. is this not terminal stupidity?

i think i'm enjoying this issue more than "Filth"... that one had incredible pieces but also very questionable ones. "Ecstasy" is more consistent in its quality even if the highs aren't as higher (very hard to top "Julie" by Mariana Enríquez but alas! these are goated too!)
"Dreamers in Broad Daylight: 10 Conversations" by Leslie Jamison is drop dead amazing and the comics are beautiful

mortified at "Community Work" and "La Orgía Nefasta"!! so good!!

currently levitating with how good some of these are!!! "Julie", by Mariana Enríquez might have genuinely rewired my brain chemistry, it's exactly the mixture of gross and disquieting and tender and pretty i need directly injected into my veins.
"Man Mountain" and "Rich"... insane hard-hitting short stories!!! Hans Lodeizen's poetry is so beautiful too!! what a work of art!!

confused at the high ratings because this isn't very good?

wish i had done a bit more research before brainlessly snatching the copies my mom had at home because why is this borderline unreadable at times? T_T i'm going to push through because i am still enjoying it but the prose is not what i would have gone with had i known
knowing i have the eneiad is in the same collection and it's the hardest of the three classic epics is worrying me a bit but i'll persist!!

education and media chapters were really interesting

now that we left the campaign details behind, it has gotten more interesting - still very introductory, though, but i assume an introduction is what this book is meant to be

definitely enjoying this much more now that I don't mix up the characters' names lmao

definitely not enjoying how clumsy and over the place it feels, most likely due to the unofficial translation... but maybe i just need some more time with the setting and the characters

a little disappointed since i was expecting something a bit different - so far the focus has been on his 2020 campaign efforts, both his own and for Biden's
however, i do quite like his writing style, it feels like an extension of his own voice and the subject matter is still interesting, although very american-centric (as expected) and anti-capitalism 101

second night in a row staying up until late to read, despite the sleep deprivation!! i am absolutely cooked!!

how heartbreaking it is to read about a girl just like you, whose sorrow is so big and bursting at the seams with rage and shame... i will always love you, laura palmer

i loathe the Dupin short stories, I can't even lie! so boring!

some observations i have so far:
- the prose is often a bit too purple-y for my taste, to the point i feel like it meanders BUT so far there's been two quotes i really liked; "But is it not a sort of genius to cut always to the heart?" like, wow! yes!
- it is VERY heavy on the romance (and i say this very neutrally!); not sure if it's quite my cup of tea yet but this would have made absolute waves with 13 year old me

this is getting GOOD! maybe I was wrong about Adele, like... go off.

it was really curious to see how much some of the short stories i quite disliked previously have grown on me! "The Pit and the Pendulum" i remember hating but i've grown quite fond of it, despite the anticlimactic ending (a much more gruesome ending would have been more to Poe's quill, I believe). maybe it's a matter of patience and maturity but what used to be boring, now feels more tense

- Adele is such an overdone caricature of the perfect gorgeous housewife with secrets, it's tiring to read - I hadn't picked up a domestic thriller like this in years and yet the same old tropes remain; i want to be surprised but i seriously doubt that will happen
- Louise does have a semblance of a personality and development that does make her more endearing
- plotwise, it is intriguing and a fast read
