I generally like Butler's perspective on creation, incarnation, and salvation.

So far I very much liked Winner's examination of Sabbath and of mourning.

I wanted to look a bit more into the years leading up to the Civil War, and this book delivers, though its focus so far is pretty much South Carolina alone.

This kind of leaves me speechless. Autobiographical narration of Jack London's descent into the world of "John Barleycorn," his anthropomorphism of alcohol.

Started out great. Currently mixed review.

The author details the progress of one specific wrongful imprisonment case, "highlighted" by other example after example and backed up by a host of sobering statistics about the abuses and injustices that continue to permeate the systemic racism within the penal system of the United States.

I am only vaguely familiar with the TV show about Making a Murderer, but it seems this is real similar in the horrible injustice it describes. Oof.

I am very engaged by this book, though occasionally frustrated by its datedness (1997. Not the author's fault!)

It came highly recommended, and it's good. Every now and then, though, I feel I'm reading Follett's commentary about religion, and not a story.

(mostly) well-written documentary on the rise of black-tar heroin in North America.

Quinones covers a lot of history and a lot of ground, literally. It's a fascinating read, interrupted by me chasing various rabbits online. Quinones does repeat a lot (he has to) and I wish there were some pictures.

This book is lovely. The first chapter is like runner porn. Second chapter starts with the famous stanza of Frost's "Two Tramps in Mud Time." Can't go wrong there.

I'm enjoying the development of the characters and the plot, though I don't find it a "quick" read.
