kinda quirky ! it feels like just reading a bunch of short stories but at the same time it’s just baffling to me that this was our culture and stories before being colonized and sure some of them are kinda weird (looking at you , frog princess) but some of them are so enchanting!

jude might be my least favorite out of the four woman - she’s still super interesting and i love how she handles herself , she really is completely different from the other three , but her story is so much more bland than the other ones idk she just feels like a spoiled rich white bitch who had a rebellious phase - BUT at the same time we got an interracial relationship ! - and a slight confrontation that was meh

most of it was boring until the end because MY GOD OH MY GOD OHMGMGMGM THE REVEAL ????? i don’t know how this is gonna play out or how they’ll eventually come together (because i assume they will???) but my god, how long is stella going to keep up with this lie ????? the only thing i hope is that jude, reese, desiree, and early come out of this happy because they are the only characters that deserve to be istg

stella is SO interesting !! she left for reasons i never even considered - and she’s living a life that she really wasn’t supposed to and it’s obvious she’s suffering from it - also i can’t imagine that stella and blake’s relationship is a truly happy one , she’s hiding a massive part of herself from him , and her kid - as the years go by, i doubt this is a happy family

i think i definitely like desiree more because of how true to herself she is but when i read about stella’s life , i just feel so ,,, bad ?
she’s basically surrounded by people she’s terrified of - white men who remind her of the people who hurt her dad and hurt her & white woman who she used to only watch from a distance but now who she pretends to be

anyway i love reese’s pov from a trans person , it’s really interesting to see something like that from the 1970’s
and i absolutely adore how supportive jude is :(

in one chapter we got SO MUCH !!!! trans representation, drag queens, lgbtq+ love, friends to lovers
OMG i’m obsessed with this book jesus i never recovered anything like this from a school book omg

time skip !!!!! jude is older and i love her character sm , cant wait to see how she learns to navigate relationships with others and love in general since she grew up with a skewed perspective - absolutely adore desiree ans early’s relationship , though it’s obvious that they both want something more serious and stable

loving desiree and early’s relationship - curious to see where / how far that will go, especially with desiree’s kid - stella just keeps getting more and more interesting

really like early as a character and can see a lot of character / plot development with him - want to see more of Jude and her role in the town - hope Desiree can get through this and maybe build a new, better relationship with her mom again? - still very curious over Stella

in shock - really good - don’t know where this is going - really want to understand stella but i feel i’ll like desiree more
