This book almost seems to ashamed to admit it's about the Midwest and that it's author is from the Midwest, and that any love for the region has to come with qualifiers. You have to make sure we all know how grotesquely average these people are, even if a few are exceptions, and not love the region or it's culture too earnestly. Lest we commit the ultimate 2015 sin of loving something unironically. May not finish.
