Parts of the historical period are interesting, though not really incisive…200 pages in and the conflict, ostensibly the infiltration of US forces by enemy intelligence and the secret capture of US soldiers, is barely present and, at this point, not super compelling, for some reason. Doesn’t always feel in view or urgent.

Ok, the plot has picked up again. Interested to see where it goes.

Halfway through and the plot is stagnating. It was rising to a head toward the end of book two but the outcome, a defeat, while probably necessary in terms of the plot, suddenly seems unfocused. This assumes the story is following some sort of hero’s journey, except that’s what seems to be missing. The remaining protagonists are uninteresting in their powerlessness and hopeless quest to deal with the villains.
