I am enjoying the book for the most part. I love the narrator's sassy tone. However, when Solnit writes about the "inherent egalitarianism" of queer relationships, or the way that veils are about invisibility, I cringe. Her analysis is far too simple, and erases so many other experiences. It's frustrating, because in so many ways she is so insightful and sharp. But in these, she comes across as seriously uninformed.

This book was *amazing.* The writing was engaging, the characters were so real and complex, and the blending of seen and unseen, magic and mundane, was masterful. So good.

So far, I love this book so much. (Also, her style is very similar to how I do my self-care and narrative coaching, which is super validating!)

My project for the writers intensive that I'm reading this for is a "choose your own self-care adventure." I liked the discussion of creative non-fiction, but am hoping there's more reference to (and room for) humour later in the book.

Read Steven Bruhm's essay, 'The Contemporary Gothic and Why We Need It.' Excellent!
