This book is so much easier if you know what you’re getting into. It’s a tough read, but very fun.

Very interesting so far. I’m on the younger end of millennial, and I relate a lot with the kids who basically wasted a lot of their childhood on their phones, even though the author is VERY focused on Gen Z.

Definitely not what I expected but I’m not complaining.

Idk how I never finished reading this book when I was a kid. I was dumb. This book is great.

Phew. Think I'm gonna have to sit with my thoughts for a bit before reviewing this one. This was a tough read.

Phew. This book is rough. It's a short audiobook, only about 6 hours, but it's taking me a few days to get through it since I have to take a break once in a while to watch a funny YouTube video or something, just for a little levity.

Just finished the audiobook. Definitely helped me get through it faster, after reading the first 20%-ish on Kindle. Not my favorite narration ever, but not the worst I've heard either.

I switched to the audiobook yesterday since I haven’t had a ton of time to read lately. The narration is pretty good, but slow. I’m listening on 1.4x speed and it barely feels sped up even though I’m used to listening to books at normal speed.

Really interesting start! Reminds me of Dexter, “I have rules to keep me from becoming a monster” but I have a feeling John might keep those rules better than Dexter does.

Fun so far. I feel like this book swings back and forth between “super cool serious epic fantasy” and “fun fantasy that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” which can be a little jarring.

I requested and received a review copy of this book for free. So far I’m enjoying it, although I’m not very far in yet. Although, I’ve made it farther than the free sample available to everyone so I can at least recommend checking that out.

The break between chapters 19 & 20 is such a breath of relief, like a sigh before a storm. There’s a lot going on here and I am incredibly, exquisitely drawn toward this story and the characters in it. It’s perfect so far. A strong leader who’s internally not as sure as he puts on, a soldier with an addiction and qualms about his allegiances, mages with conflicting ideals, I’m here for all of it give me more!

I forgot I set my Kindle to not automatically make books as “currently reading” because, le gasp, sometimes I read stuff that I don’t want to show in my history for one reason or another. So yeah, I started this a few days ago but only now remembered to mark it as “currently reading.” Enjoying it so far, a bit of a slow start but I mean, I read epic fantasy and that’s par for the course here.

Whoops, forgot to mark this as “currently reading” but I’ve been working on it for a while. So far, it’s felt pretty slow and I might DNF if not for hearing great things about this book on Reddit. Hoping it can turn around and pull me in because the first third has been a bit of a slog tbh. There’s a lot of action, but it still feels slow due to the tone and oddly timed info dumps.

OK, so. Lots of thoughts. There’s a good chunk of humor at first, then it’s really identical to the movie for a while. Then there’s some stuff that’s not just like the movie and a cat dies which is super sad, especially since I’ve literally had a cat die in my arms so that was really painful. I’m shook tbh. This book is a wild ride, the movie cuts it way short.

This book is already so incredibly different from the movie. There is 110% more humor and also it’s 78% darker. I want this as a tv series, there’s too much here for a movie already.

Grimdark for sure. I’m enjoying it so far. A few grammar issues here and there but nothing major. A little over the top at times with the “I’m a monster, I don’t want to kill but I need to kill” aspect of MC.

There's a lot less action and a little more sex in this one than in the previous book. I'm still enjoying it, but I kind of feel like the blurb spoiled the back half since some of it hasn't even happened yet.

Really enjoying it so far. Lots of kinda slow worldbuilding, but I enjoy that.

Really enjoying this so far! Started reading it a couple weeks ago but haven't had a lot of time to read, so I haven't made it as far as I'd like. The author gave me an ARC copy of this and her next book, so I feel bad not having them finished and reviewed yet. I definitely like this one so far though, really solid YA fantasy.
