The book is very good but does require a lot of trust in understanding Mann’s criticism of different musicians. I especially loved the chapter that involved diving deep into the ocean and then concludes with musing on the breadth of the universe. If one didn’t know that Mann was not a believer in God, one surely will learn it here.

Only 45 pages left to read. What wonderful and amazing novel. A mixture of epic biblical story and historical analysis and economic theory.

One more chapter to go and then the story is completed.

At long last Joseph reveals himself to his brothers.

The story is coming to its conclusion. Just over 200 pages to go. I was at my cousin’s place for 10 days. I didn’t read much but when I did read the story I could remember what I had read previously.

I’ve returned the this tetralogy. The last book, Joseph the Provider, starts out with Joseph on a ship on his way to prison after the episode with Mut and his being sold by Petepre to the Pharaoh. .

Finished Joseph in Egypt.

Finished part 4 of Joseph in Egypt.

Finished Part 3. Joseph has now been sold into Potiphar’s household.

Joseph journeys further into Egypt. He has now met a baker; perhaps the one whose further will be foretold.

A wonderful meditation on the Sphinx (pages 601-608) in part 2.

Finished the first book of the tetralogy, The Stories of Jacob.

Completed the first book. It ends the death of Rachel and the birth of Benjamin as Jacob and his household are travelling back to Isaac and Rebekah home.

Finally completed part 6 of the first book. Hopefully, I finish the finish the Stories of Jacob today.
