What am I reading?

I honestly can't tell anymore if Margaret Mitchell wants me to despise Scarlet or if my distain is was unintended. Grandma Fontaine is the only character in this book that acts in a manner worth of praise.

This book is Margaret Mitchell's self insert fanfiction for the civil war.
Scarlet is a Mary Sue.
I question this book's literary value.
This book's main worth is to demonstrate how misguided and racist a 1930's Georgian woman could be.
Anyone who tries to defend this book to me is in for an uphill battle.

Theres 35 hours left in this audiobook and its 1864. I don't understand

This book is racist. I had always been told that the romance plot in this book was so amazing that it was worth subjecting myself to all the bigoted hateful language.
The romance plot is abusive.
I'm very tired.

I really wish this book wasn't so intent on having a love interest sub plot.

The way this author describes women doesn't sit quite right with me. Seeing as the story is told mainly in 1st person by a male protagonist, it could be an intentional choice to show more about his personality. However, the tone continued in a 5 page section from a female character's perspective so I think its unintended. So far it isn't interfering with my interest in the plot.
