I like this author. Her descriptions of Welsh landscapes in this novel are both historically fascinating and currently correct and intriguing. There is always a independent protagonists and a persistent mystery in her tales. I had a hard time putting this book down.

I was amazed by the struggles of the Norwegian pioneer women in this story. The harsh winters, incredible sod busting that occurred to farm the land, and the physical duress of the individuals and families who survived captivated me and made me glad to live in this era.
