Certainly getting better for me, but I don't think mine and Sanderson's sense of humor are compatible. Something I vaguely recognized when I read The Reckoners, but is becoming more apparent in this book. This feels particularly disappointing because I've loved Hoid literally every other time I've read him.

But having a much better time with it now!

Oh dear. I'm not loving this one.

Still have hopes because Sanderson! But really feeling like it's trying way too hard to be The Princess Bride. Which don't get me wrong, adore that book, but it feels...like an almost forced voice here so far.

Let's start 2023 off right with some new Sanderson!

I thought I was further in this book than I actually am, and seeing I'm 10% less further in than I figured I was is....rough.

Does this get interesting soon?

I started out thinking this book would be an easy 4 or 5 star but it'll probably be a 3. It has the same amount of subtlety in its message as The Alchemist, though maybe not *quite* as sledge hammery.

But if romance ends up being the answer, I'm going to be furious lol.

I had planned to listen to this on a 7 hour car ride but listening to softcore erotica with my husband in the car--who can hear it--for any amount of time is not my thing.

There is nothing Beauty and the Beast about this besides the kidnapping and nothing Fae except the name.

It's not terrible, writing is still clunky, but why use this as a foundation if you're going to disregard them all?

Like, this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, right? There's nothing beastly about him. He's gorgeous and polite and charming.

Throne of Glass is a book I DNF-ed super early in because of the characters and the writing being clunky. My hopes for this aren't phenomenal, but I'm hoping it's better than her other book.

This is just too like......quick. Too abrupt in how special the main character is.

I've never read a Molly Harper book as I don't venture into pure romance too often--though going to try to fix that this year.

The narrator on this is gorgeous but very fast. I normally listen to my books at like a 1.75 speed--because I'm hella impatient--and had to pull this down to 1.2. Still a little fast to listen to.

I'm side-eyeing Vivenna hard most of all, but I've been side-eyeing her this whole book.

I'm side eyeing Lightsong super hard right now. He's still absolutely my favorite though.

I'm so glad I have read The Way of Kings before this because that one tiny letter being mentioned was enough to cause a major fangirl moment here at my work desk.

Lightsong is amazing and the audiobook narrator is pretty good so far.

Terry Pratchett is a word magician and no one can convince me otherwise.
