The prince was dragged to the Epanchins. There, Evgeny was talking about liberalism and asked the prince a few questions. The prince answered seriously despite everyone’s claims that Evgeny was just joking around. After making a few controversial claims, the laughter ceased and tension rose. Lizaveta interrupted by calling for the company to listen to music.

Liza went to leave but the prince brought up that he was forbidden by Aglaya from visiting the Prokofyevna family. Liza freaked out and began to drag the prince to her house.

Lizaveta visited the prince and demanded to be informed about a letter that the prince had earlier sent to Aglaya. After the prince read it, Liza was angry and anxious — she grilled the prince about his intents. The two reconciled, but Liza rudely pointed out that Aglaya would never be with the prince. Then, the prince informed Liza of a note from Burdovsky and the two quarreled.

Next Kolya came with a bag of news. He informed the prince of the family’s quarrels involving Ganya.

Finally, the general came and spoke in a largely incoherent manner. He expressed that they do not suspect the prince as a participant of the intrigue. The general asked the prince to stay out of communication until winds change.

A few people came to visit the prince.

First Ganya stopped by and had a short talk but the prince restrained himself from discussing serious matters.

Then Keller came by, confessed a bunch of stuff, and asked for money. The prince connected with his talk of double thoughts and gave him the money.

The gathering has ended after a night of heated argument. Ippolit has been taken away due to his sickness. He expressed his extreme content for the prince on the way out.

Evgeny Pavlych ran into a woman on his way out and received a message that he need not worry about ‘Kupfer’s promissory notes,’ for Rogozhin bought them. He was furious, confused, and extremely irritated. He returned to the Prince.

Gavrila explained the impossibility of Mr. Burdovsky being Pavlihschev’s son and everyone accepted it. Then, there was some feuding and Lizaveta Prokofyevna fell upon lebedev’s nephew. She harangued the visitors about how they are taking advantage of the prince. Everyone was about to leave, but the prince offered them all to stay for tea. Tensions are high, but Lizaveta has calmed down.

The prince just declared that Chebarov fooled Burdovsky’s entire company with the claims that Burdovsky is Pavlihschev’s son. Myshkin has handed the conversation off to Ganya, who will put forth the proof of Chebarov’s opportunistic charlatanism.
