Pretentious writing so far. I don’t love the constant reference to muscles to show how special the character is. Also, the brother phone call was just gross. I don’t love family drama anyway, so let’s see if this character has more going for it than the first two chapters which haven’t sold me.

Very cool! Love the world building and the main characters voice. The atmosphere is very unsettling and classically gothic.

Picked up again thankfully; I had a hard time during the courting and marriage getting through it without being bored

Starting to feel a little repetitive with the repeated visits, the returning to the cabin, the friends seeing the same entities that Felix saw… it’s really slowed down the story and repetition does not lend itself to horror well. Also, beginning to think it would have been better to have the story be Fae as a child with her dad as the narrator as the story infantilizes her so much

The first part of the book was so intense and I feel like we’ve slammed on the breaks now that we’ve left the cabin. Honestly, the best part was the African Grey at the beginning. Come back to me, Carrot
