It took my quiet. It broke who I was and now this is where we are.

The dust growing on piles of books… grief

The one thing above all that kills me everyday, every moment I think of you… I want to remember the good but it’s so clouded by the pain and anger…

I watched you leave… I flew across the country to you.. I was too late the last time…

I lived in books because you made life unbearable and I could escape… I read 100s to thousands before I was even in high school..

How accurate already everything said. Down to the smoking while pregnant, the strange man she invited in who punched holes in the wall… it’s just a book of parallels for all the things left unsaid..

I am unsure how this will go, but as someone whose mother died before apologizing, before correcting behavior, before becoming the mother to me I so desperately craved, I feel it will resonate. Maybe it might provide some closure. It was a struggle to grieve a mother and the idea she could have changed and been the mom I needed.

May 25— it’s fascinating and eye opening to see the range of emotions and reactions that the combination of complex mental illness and substance abuse can lead to.

May 20- Limerence and mental illness and the crushing fall of loving what you have never known. On this date, he shares the personification of limerence. I have a pre-disposition to associate this piece with the artist’s gender and the specific mental illness leading to a more promiscuous based approach. I feel it differs via individuals. I find mania can cause those impulses. Just a thought as I process the works.

Another recommendation from Nat. I appreciate the sociological and psychological layers woven into the premise of this series, as well as the author’s accompanying words. I’m especially interested in seeing how mental illness and substance addiction shape the variations in the art. I also appreciate it was created during my birth month. 😅

To all of the boys who loved the idea of you, and not you. Let them go.

After my mom passed, reading fell away from me.
Grief fractured my focus in ways I didn’t expect.

Now, as I prepare to open my tea room—centered on mental wellness, physical health, and literacy—I’m reclaiming it.

My goal is 50 books by year’s end.
I’m also prioritizing banned books, because protecting stories and access to ideas matters.

I saw a comment on race in this novel and how it was presented perfectly. I was thinking about this exactly! Neil wrote it wonderfully and I loved that it wasn’t made out to be such a big thing. It just was. It also had people questioning their assumptions. That is how it should be. I loved the way he approached the entire novel.

Trying to get back to reading more this year despite work and school. This semester I have a ton of medical essays (of course got the neuroscientist as prof. this semester). The amount of reading required definitely takes away from my personal reading time.
