This setting suffers greatly from the typical imperialistic fantasy tropes. Although set in another world, the setting has a British Empire equivalent that feels bad enough, but the hairy stone age Bigfoot-like "savages" that get killed in droves really sinks in the grotesque other-ing of "exotic uncivilized lands" ready to be explored by a grimdark airship pirate captian

Found this in a second-hand book store. I have not read the first book in the series. This is book # 2. Let's see what happens

Reading this makes me think mlhow bad at making candy Charlie must have been after getting the candy company from Wonka at age 12.
I'm getting tired of all the references. For taking place in the near future, there seems to not be much thought about how the second this was published, it became outdated. Why not just have this setting an alternative reality where the world as we know it ended on December 31st, 1989?

So far, it's a bit of a slow start. Vaguely remembering the movie is helping.
