I've been in a bit of a reading and writing slump for... honestly a few years. This was an excellent book to get back into reading again. I liked the characters, the world, the slow burn of intrigue (even if I was able to guess who Eli was from the moment two characters were mentioned having green eyes. ) ;)

It's been many years since I last read this, it's interesting how it's showing me how much I've changed since I was a teen. I feel I understand the story better this time around and I'll probably understand more in another 15 years.

This is the first time I've picked up a book in over a year. (Was a stressful/slightly traumatic year, but we're through). So nice to just be reading again.

This is a long book... Not complaining, just an observation.

Mmmm... I'm kinda frustrated with this book. This feels well written. The plot and characters are well written, but some of the themes and motifs are rubbing me the wrong way.
I'll go into more detail when I finish the book, I'm hoping that maybe the themes will shift, but I'm not holding my breath.

So far this story strikes me as really well written. I love this protagonist. Mia strikes me as an isfp. Which is interesting. I don't think I've read an isfp mc before.

I'm also loving the slow burn with the main love interest. It's really refreshing to see them develop a genuine friendship built on trust. Especially after the craziness I read last in the cruel prince series.

So far it seems like Mulan (original animated version) meets Project Runway...

Meh ... Don't think I'll finish this. The odd reveal about main guy being a heretic was just kind weird for me and the rest of the story didn't grab me enough to make me want to push through.

It's really hard to take the "romance" seriously. I'm torn between laughing at how rediculous it is and being a little disgusted at how blatantly unhealthy it is. However, everyone in this world is kinda messed up. I'm sticking around for the political intrigue (and also waiting for Locke to get taken down a notch...)
